Moj otok silba

My island of Silba

Yesterday I again found myself in a situation where I had to explain to my acquaintances whatit is that brings me back to my island! For the umpteenth time I spoke about the feelings that come over me after merely a thought of those moments of leisure in the sun and drinking a cup of coffee for countless minutes! Peace. Serenity. Joy.

Just thinking about how I will go to Silba on Saturday and spend ten lovely days there brings a smile to my face, and I find myself counting days. Five more days to go… The questions of those people who haven’t visited the island yet are always the same: “How many people live on Silba? What do people do outside the tourist season? What do they live off? How often does a boat arrive? What do you eat if there are no large supermarkets? Where’s your car?” And so on… all the way to the last, “female” question: “Don’t you miss shopping in the city?!” I answer and explain patiently… There are two shops, but Verica owns a newsagent’s as well. The catamaran arrives daily, and then there’s the ferry. In winter there are around 300 inhabitants, but in summer there are very many more of us! We build, work in the garden, take walks, drive a tractor, or row a boat… In short, we enjoy each individual day. When it’s sunny, it’s nice. When there are big waves, it’s nice. You should have seen this winter’s snow!

I’m at a loss for words when it comes to describing this island. It’s not unique only because of one thing; there’s this magnificent impression that enchants and overcomes you! You might say all islands are the same, but no! For those of us who know it, Silba is Paradise. When you step on the island and take a liking to it, you will return to it again and again. If you don’t fall under its charm, we will never see you again, since coming to the island is too complicated to begin with. As for me, whenever I disembark, I say: “Thank you, God, for this gift!”

najpotpuniju uslugu booking-a nudi gosp.

Pešačimo, plivamo i udišemo lepotu, mirise i boje naše lepotice Silbe. Već pomisao na Silbu i leto nas razveseli i ponekad, uteši. Vidimo se i ovog leta.
